Abstract

The article focuses on the misdiagnosis of Staphylococcus aureus infections as brown recluse spider bites by doctors in the U.S. A study by the Department of Defense found that hundreds of brown recluse bite cases have been diagnosed in states that have no record of confirmed sighting of such spider. It states the increase in the number of Staphylococcus infections as the bacteria grew more resistant to antibiotics. According to the "Journal of the American Medical Association," over 18,000 people died from such infections in 2005.
