Abstract

The article presents the results of a study on the prevalence of mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 breast cancer genes. It mentions that increased susceptibility for such cancer is usually associated with deleterious mutations of the genes, particularly in families with both breast and ovarian cancer. Improved mutation detection by a comprehensive screening approach for the genes may be effective for the identification of deleterious mutations.
