Abstract

An encyclopedia entry for ringmaster William E. Jones is presented. Born in Dubbo, New South Wales in 1844, Jones accomplished some remarkable physical feats as an acrobat, tightrope-walker, horse trainer, clown, ringmaster and equestrian. In Hobart, Tasmania in March 1866, he walked across a rope stretched from the top of the circus pole at the height of about 15 meters above the Argyle Street to the Theatre Royal on the other side.
