Abstract

The article profiles Nicholas Chaperon, a painter from Châteaudun, France. He was trained under Aubin Vouet in Paris and between 1642 and 1651 he moved to Rome as Nicholas Poussin became a stronger influence. However, Chaperon was not pleased by his reception as Poussin's letters are full of criticisms about him. It was mentioned that Chaperon has never been known a man whose procedure was so dishonest, nor anyone unreasonable and untruthful. He was well-known to the print world in which his interest in printmaking was common to many who emerged from Vouet's atelier that he made plates after his own paintings.
