Abstract

The article reports on the inauguration of the new East Building of the National Gallery of Art in Washington. The author mentioned that the building architect I.M. Pei had respected the monolithic tradition of Washington Official Architecture without following its dullness. He described the building as a great trapezoid that was composed of two contiguous triangle. He also reported several exhibitions that will be held at the said building including " Giovanni Battista Piranesi: The Early Architectural Fantasies" and the "American Art at Mid-Century/The Subjects of the Artist".
