Abstract

The article reports that livestock and food-processing industries and some environmental groups have joined forces with oil companies to eliminate a mandate concerning renewable fuels in energy legislation before the U.S. Congress. Forty-six House Democrats have urged congressional leaders to restrain expansion of corn-derived ethanol to keep livestock feed and food prices from rising further. However, ethanol producers and farmers in Illinois are counting on ethanol to support corn prices.
