Abstract

Abstract: The cellular localization of prostaglandin E<subscript>2</subscript> receptors (EP) and their corresponding transcripts were investigated in human gastric and vascular tissues. A strong staining of the EP<subscript>3</subscript> receptor on the gastric glands, mucous cells, media of the mammary and pulmonary arteries was observed by immunohistochemistry. We identified a new mRNA splice variant of the EP<subscript>3</subscript> gene in human gastric fundic mucosa, mammary artery and pulmonary vessels. This EP<subscript>3-Ic</subscript> transcript contains exons 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 of the EP<subscript>3</subscript> gene and should be translated in the EP<subscript>3-I</subscript> isoform. In addition, the EP<subscript>3-Ib</subscript>, EP<subscript>3-II</subscript>, EP<subscript>3-III</subscript>, EP<subscript>3-IV</subscript> and EP<subscript>3-e</subscript> mRNAs were detected in these tissues.
