Abstract

The article discusses how a movement to promote Maori culture changed perceptions of New Zealand history. Allegations regarding the legality of the colonization of New Zealand led to recognition of Maori grievances by the New Zealand government. Historian James Belich wrote about the collision of cultures in New Zealand history from a bicultural perspective in the book "Making Peoples: A History of the New Zealanders: From Polynesian Settlement to the End of the Nineteenth Century."
