Abstract: The article reports on the status of Motorway widening schemes in Great Britain in November 2007 after the government said it would launch a major study into the benefits of using hard shoulder running and traffic management instead. The construction industry was circulated with rumors that widening planned for the M1, M6 and M27 in the Department of Transport (Dft) targeted program of improvement would be scrapped.
