Dark Varnishes — Some Further Comments.

The article comments on the papers, "Dark Varnishes: Variations on a Theme From Pliny," by E. H. Gombrich and "Dark Varnishes, Tinted Varnishes and Patina," by Otto Kurz in the February 1962 issue. It is pointed out that some of the literary quotations presented by Gombrich and Kurz have been misunderstood because of the lack of technical knowledge. Most of the issues discussed concern the materials or techniques of painting.
