Abstract
- This research paper examines and reviews dosimetric monitoring during the four year cleanup following the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster in the Ukraine. During that time, four independent dosimetry services operated in the area each covering different cohorts of cleanup workers. This led to variables in measurements and true understanding of contamination. The author says it is time to rethink dosimetric monitoring practices at the location. The various cleanup groups are listed. The authors found inaccurate and biased dose records for military helpers, incomplete data for others and a lack of data on beta exposure. In all, several thousand people worked on the site.
