Abstract
- This paper examines discourses of identity that turn into ‘anti-Other’ accusations through a case study on ‘international media echo’ conducted in the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis. Specifically, Le Monde’s and The New York Times’ editorials on Russia from 1999 to 2001 are analysed linguistically and socially in connection with Russia’s socio-political context at the time and response to Western discourse. The role of language in social phenomena, especially of media in intercultural / international relations, is underlined in the description of the sources, development, weakening, and long-time effects of the spiral of ‘anti-Other rhetoric’. ..PAT.-Conference Proceeding [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
