The author reflects on his experience as the executive director of the Canadian Institute of Forestry/Institut forestier du Canada (CIF/IFC), publishers of "The Forestry Chronicle." He discusses the book "Meditations" by the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, a work of classical stoic philosophy which he has found inspiring in dealing with the challenges facing the institute, such as membership and cash flow. He outlines a number of plans for improving the organization and note some achievements such as the creation of an electronic discussion group forum and virtual lecture series.
