NEW TOWER DESIGN-TESTED ON A BRIDGE.

The article focuses on the installation of dampers to London's Millennium Bridge by Arup. The Millennium Bridge provided the opportunity for Michael Willford, Arup fellow and leader of Arup's Advanced Technology and Research Practice, to test the technology of multiple small fluid-viscous dampers, which Arup has now applied to the structural design of tall buildings. Viscous dampers are less space hungry and more cost effective than conventional tuned mass dampers.
