Abstract

This study examined students' thinking in the context of sampling problems. Students were interviewed as they responded to a series of sampling tasks that asked them to make predictions for single outcomes, as well as repeated samples. Drawing on episodes from three particular students, predominate forms of thinking are examined and possibilities for using student thinking coupled with dynamic sampling tasks as a way to promote engaging statitical discourse are discussed. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
