Abstract
- The article discusses the need for improved safety in construction sites, particularly in the refurbishment and housebuilding sectors. Stephen Williams, head of construction of the British Health and Safety Executive (HSE) noted the high fatality rate in this sector, where 39 fatalities occurred in 2006. Among the 1,500 sites inspected in June and July 2007, 244 works were stopped due to dangerous conditions. It is also noted in the article that contractor Rockbuild was fined heavily for an accident that left a worker paralyzed.
