Abstract

The article examines the architectural design of the National Commercial Bank, as applied by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill architects. To break the tradition with the Saudi Arabian practice of spread-out and horizontal architecture, these architects have decided to sit the bank on an irregular shaped and placed it between the old city and the sea. It likewise has been characterized by a central wall to allegedly allow accumulated heat to rise out of the courts.
