- The article focuses on American painter and art teacher Frank Duveneck and novelist Henry James. It compares the two artists, who were both connected to Lizzie Boott, with regard to their characters and their views about each other. It also discusses certain important events in the lives of the artists, particularly on the time when Duveneck married Boott.
