Abstract

The article reports on the problems affecting historical sites and museums in the U.S. following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. It relates that museums are devising strategies to cope with the declining number of visitors and the George Washington's Mount Vernon has decided to display the dentures of the first President of the country in the hope of luring visitors back and thwart lasting financial problems. Moreover, several other historic sites remain close including the New York Federal Hall because it is still covered with ash and debris. Meanwhile, historic battlefields have reported increase in the number of visitors since the attack and Katie Lawhon of the Civil War Battlefield explains that it reflects the people's need to understand the events of September 11.
