Abstract

This study combines parent partnering transitions with residential or school mobility in an attempt to index types and combinations of environmental (in)stability and their unique influence on student outcomes Distinctions are seen for those in families experiencing disruption during and before the teen years. Interestingly demographic factors associated with race and class became less salient in explaining the grade performance for students in disrupted families where gender becomes more salient. Examining types of mobility, residential and/or educational, further reveals distinctions amongst family types where school mobility combined with family transition, has the most detrimental effect on student outcomes. This finding is important in light of policy and regulations governing family custody awards---maintaining school ties may ultimately benefit students experiencing family transition. ..PAT.-Unpublished Manuscript [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
