Abstract

The article reports on events across Great Britain staged by ICE members to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Telford, the first president of the ICE. In Shropshire, where Telford began his grand projects as surveyor of public works, his successor as ICE president Quentin Leiper, attended a ceremony to mount a plaque on Telford's Mountford bridge. As part of an excursion across North Wales, the ICE Wales group took in some of Telford's iconic structures.
