Abstract

The article focuses on the debate over the fixing of General Schedule (GS) pay scale. Employee unions have urged the U.S. government to execute less drastic measures compared with the ones being considered to deal with the federal pay system. A hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee's Federal Workforce, Postal Service, and the District of Columbia Subcommittee, held on July 31, 2007, reflected the differences in the opinions of the public officials and employee union leaders regarding the issue. David Cox, national secretary-treasurer of the American Federation of Government Employees said that the GS pay scale is founded on objective market data. INSET: NTEU URGES USE OF UNDERUSED PAY PERKS.
