Abstract
- The article discusses cost effectiveness of hydroxocobalamin (HC), the cyanide antidote approved by the Food and Drug Administration in the U.S. According to the author, a 5 gram adult dose of HC costs approximately $650, while a 100 milliliter of 1% sodium thiosulfate costs only $5.65 but does not directly detoxify cyanide. The author concludes that HC as prophylaxis is not cost-effective.
