Abstract
- The article offers information about the Fontainebleau School of printmaking in France. It identifies the sources for some of the landscapes' prints, which demonstrates that they are not invented at Fontainebleau as has been frequently contended. It also discusses the printmakers' use of smaller landscape fragments and motifs combined in various ways and placed in different context. The evidence of unusual printmaking techniques employed in the school's workshop is provided. According to the author, it is difficult to gauge the extent of the influence of Fontainebleau School printmakers despite of its earliest independent landscapes in Renaissance France.
