Abstract
- The article presents a survey of English literature in South Africa since the dismantling of political apartheid. The author's stated purpose is to discover common literary themes in literature produced in the decade following the end of apartheid. The author contends there is a sense of literary creativity unfulfilled and that the themes of truth and reconciliation that are discerned in the literature are incompatible with trends in South African society.
