Abstract

The article examines the mathematical problem from the Rhind Papyrus, an papyrus manuscript that demonstrates the understanding of Egyptians about the computation of the area of a circle. A formula for the exact area of a circle and an example of the area of a circle with radius are presented. The procedure was given to make a comparison between the Egyptians' mathematical process and the modern formula of circles. To approximate the value of pi, the students use pennies to measure and compute the area of a square and circle.
