Abstract
- This essay discusses the interpretation of the 19th century novelist and poet William Gilmore Simms' writings as a pioneer American literary environmentalist. The author discusses the presence of natural ecological themes in American Romantic writers such as William Wordsworth, and Henry David Thoreau. An overview of Simms' writings pertaining to environmentalism is provided.
