Abstract

The article presents criticisms of the play "The Case Is Altered," by Ben Jonson. According to one of the critics, the play is heavily influenced by Plautus and often compared to Shakespeare's early comedies, especially "Two Gentlemen of Verona." Various themes are highlighted in the play including avarice, drunkenness, and Puritans. Rosalind Miles described that the play is unfocused, poorly structured and is weakened by its romantic sub-plot.
