THE MULTICULTURAL POLICY, CANADA'S RESPONSE TO ETHNIC DIVERSITY.

This article focuses on the official adoption by the Canadian federal government of the policy of multiculturalism. This official adoption was made by Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau on October 8, 1971. The author compares and contract the cultural pluralism model adopted by Canada with that of the melting pot model heralded in the U.S. as an ideal. It discusses the beginning of multicultural policy in Canada. It details the actions taken by the Canadian government in implementing the policy of multiculturalism.
