Abstract
- The article discusses the findings of a clinical trial of oral transmucosal fentanyl citrate (OTFC) Actiq for the treatment of cancer related breakthrough pain. OTFC is a solid lozenge that relieves pain as rapidly as intravenous morphine but allows the patient to remain alert because of its relatively short duration of action. OFTC is not recommended for patients who are physically weak, and those who have mucositis or oral thrush should wait until they have recovered before they try it.
