Abstract

The article provides information on social status as the basis in the judgment of occupational prestige in the U.S. The theory suggested that high status subject would displace their judgments on moderate and low prestige occupations towards the low end of the high standing attributes and those with unfavorable positions gives their opinions based on statements which varies from their views towards the favorable end. A table showing the comparison of the judgment of Yale students and from the previously published judgments base on a nationwide sample supported by the theory is presented.
