Abstract

The article focuses on the study on how level of awareness influenced the effect of a verbal stimulus on recall conducted on 65 undergraduate students of the School of Commerce of New York University in New York City. According to the result of the study, degree of effect was inversely related to awareness of the stimulus and to closeness of the stimulus. Subliminal with no partial cues, near-liminal with partial cues available and supraliminal are the three stages of registration based on the analysis of the role of level of awareness.
