Abstract

The article reports on the replacement of a road over rail bridges in Acton, west London, England. Two four-lane concrete and masonry bridges in Acton crossing congested railway lines are beyond repair so owner Transport for London is replacing them at a cost of £16 million. Designer is Hyder and contractor is Alfred McAlpine. The existing structures were built in 1927 and carry traffic over railway lines which carry around 800 trains carrying in excess of 145,000 passengers a day.
