Abstract

A reprint of the article "Turbo-Supercharger Development; Evolution to First Operational Use," by M. C. Olmsted, which appeared in the summer 1967 issue of the "American Aviation Historical Society Journal," is presented. The turbo-supercharger is used to boost the power output and/or maintain the power output of aircraft engines at high altitudes. It is comprised of a compressor pumping air and being driven by a gas turbine. The first exhaust-driven supercharger is said to be developed by the Swiss A. J. Buchi.
