Abstract

This study examined the extent to which attitudes about academics and academically related behaviors impacted the academic success of 380 college students. The students did not take responsibility for their failures, nor did they attribute their friends' failures to their friends. However their ACT scores and level of diligence were statistically significant predictors of GPA. Moreover, their level of class participation, study habits, and use of campus resources were significant predictors of diligence and thus were indirectly related to GPA. The most striking implication is that students are in control of their academic lives. Diligence, study habits, and classroom participation, all modifiable behaviors, have implications for academic success. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
