Abstract
- An encyclopedia entry for British philosopher George Grote is presented. He was born on November 17, 1794 in Kent, England, and died on June 18, 1871 in London. He studied at his father's school, Charterhouse, where he received a classical education extending from Homer to Virgil, and later took an active part in politics by taking the lead of the so-called philosophical radicals in Parliament. His philosophical works include "History of Greece" and "Plato and the Other Companions of Sokrates."
