Abstract

The article focuses on the role of former U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy during the Cold War in the Soviet Union. He was the senator often contacted by the Soviets during the crisis. In his new book, "The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism," Paul Kengor quotes from a top-secret Soviet State Security Committee report about their contacts with Kennedy. The article provides more top-secret documents from Soviet archives that tell about Kennedy's further contacts with the Soviet Union, including his meeting with Vadim Zagladin, then official with the International Department of the Soviet Communist party.
