Abstract

Summary: Total knee arthroplasty is today a successful procedure in relieving pain and functional restoration of patients with advanced knee disease. Our knowledge on indications, surgical technique and prosthetic design have evolved over the past years to such an extent that a consistent and durable outcome can be obtained in the majority of cases. Some controversies that were debated in the past have today been resolved; others are still open for discussion. In this paper, a general overview on the current ‘state of the art’ in primary knee arthroplasty is given. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
