Abstract

Si unit-fused diphenylamine-containing polymers were prepared and the properties of these compounds were studied. Selective dilithiation of 2,2′,4,4′-tetrabromodiphenylamine derivatives using n-butyllithium, followed by addition of dichlorosilane and 1,2-dichloro-1,1,2,2-tetramethyldisilane, produced monosilane and disilane unit-fused diphenylamines (Phenaz and DSiAzep, respectively). Siloxane unit-fused diphenylamine (SiO) was prepared by oxidation of DSiAzep. Polymers with Si unit-fused diphenylamine were prepared by using an organometallic process to obtain structurally well-defined polymers. Siloxane unit-fused diphenylamine-containing polymers were also prepared by oxidation of relative disilane unit-fused diphenylamine-containing polymers. The obtained polymers were useful for electrochromic devices, electroluminescent devices, functional additives for resins, and so on. The properties and functionalities of the polymers were changed by fusing Si unit and by changing the substituent on the N atom or Si atom. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
