Abstract

The article reflects on various issues concerning transportation and traffic in New York City. It discussed the lawsuit filed by the city along with eight states against carbon dioxide-spewing electrical companies and the announcement of the City Council that it had met the Kyoto Protocol's targets for greenhouse gas reductions ahead of schedule. It also offers information about the new study entitled "Global Warming on the Road: The Climate Impact of American Automobiles." Other issues tackled were about the need for the government to effectively reduce the biggest source emissions, the congestion pricing initiated by Mayor Ken Livingstone to reclaim public space and develop a better transportation system, and the introduction of the Traffic Relief Bill by the City Council.
