Abstract

The article presents a literary piece about Rhœcus. One day as Rhœcus was walking through a forest, he saw an old oak tree which is about to fall. He found himself a prop and placed it under the tree. As he turned away, he heard a low, sweet voice calling his name. There in the shadow of the tree he saw a beautiful maiden. She was the Dryad of the tree who could live only as the tree lived. She told him that he had saved her life and offered him to tell her what he most wished for. Rhœcus told her to be her friend. The Dryard told her to come back at sunset. But Rhœcus forgot about it, so she sent him a bee. Rhœcus, not knowing that the bee was the Drayard's messenger, struck the bee. The Dryard did not let him see her anymore because he was unkind.
