Abstract
- The article presents several school-laboratory works in beet sugar making, as part of the science work of the sixth and seventh grades students of the Francis W. Parker School in Chicago, Illinois. The study on sugar manufacturing has been chosen because it offered students opportunities to develop their comprehension and working ability. Before the actual process was materialized, they first taught how to grow sugar beets in their school garden. After several months, the crop was harvested and its yield was processed into sugar. Though sugar was not obtained, the study results had been sufficiently favorable to the class to guarantee the continuation of the work.
