This article focuses on the construction of a new technology building authorized by Athens Technical College officials in Athens, Georgia and the enlistment of the help of Cisco Premier Certified Partner Cpak Technology Solutions to implement a network in the building that would utilize Cisco switches, wireless connectivity and a firewall for security in November 2005. Cpak was the clear choice, according to Dennis Ashworth, information technology director of the college, because the solution provider has a strong focus on the education market, allowing it to understand the unique needs of Athens. The biggest challenge throughout the project was time limitations. The new technology building at Athens Technical College opened in December 2005. Today students can bring in personal laptops and personal digital assistants, and have wireless access throughout the classrooms and common areas.
