Abstract
- The article discusses the study on the emergence cues of a mayfly in a high-altitude stream ecosystem. The study authors compared the spatial variation in timing of emergence among populations in multiple streams of the drainage basin during two different years. They also designed experiments to manipulate water temperature and stream flow which enabled them to decouple the potential causal mechanisms that explain early emergence of mayfly in low-flow years. The results of the study imply that large-scale climate changes involving warming and stream dying could cause significant shifts in the timing of mayfly metamorphosis.
