Abstract

The article discusses the evidence for spinal circuits interceding the change in motor behavior and muscle coactivation associated with age. It is said that age changes the control of voluntary movement of an individual. An oftentimes observed adaptation is the increased agonist and antagonist muscle coactivation. Disynaptic reciprocal inhibition is the main spinal coordinator of the agonist-antagonist muscle processes.
