Abstract

The article reports on the inclined screw press, which was installed by the water pollution control facility of Old Town, Maine. This inclined screw press can produce a dewatered cake with more than 20 percent solids. The project team determined that an enclosed dewatering system would be chosen since it would need less space and operator attention, generate less odor and corrosion. These benefits were specially essential in Old Town because space was limited, and the dewatering and administrative areas were close to one another. Initial performance testing results, fine-tuned performance testing results and major upgrade components to address treatment performance limits, wet-weather-related hydraulic limits, safety and reliability concerns, and deteriorated equipment systems were presented.
