Abstract

The article focuses on the close-knit community around the Communist writers and intellectuals of the Writers' International and "Left Review" from 1934 to 1938. The periodical incorporates contemporary leftist opinions from several writers including Naomi Mitchison and Stephen Spender. The production of leftist journalism and literature became crucial in the 1930s due to domestic and international crises. Communist and socialist writers took advantage of a burgeoning community of publications that were often produced by a group of writers and editors.
