Abstract

The article focuses on the use of automated infrared (IR) imaging technology in temperature-sensitive segments. Such technology has the capability to enhance many industrial tasks including process monitoring and control, predictive maintenance, and quality control. In one application, a company that manufactures ceramic igniters uses IR technology to locate cracks that are not visible to the naked eye. IR sensors have the ability to find flaws in the ceramic devices by slightly heating the igniters with the use of a low electrical current.
