Abstract

The article analyses the emergence of organizations that originated Embraer Corp., i.e., the Ministry of Aeronautics, the Aeronautics Technological Center and the Aeronautics Technological Institute, founded in the 1940's and 1950's. This paper analyses the Embraer's involvement with the Aeronautics' national defense strategic project. This strategic project of the officials of the Brazilian Air Force was tied to the problematics of the national security and was connected with the spacious commitment of the soldiers in the political Brazilian process. In this sense, Embraer resembles the oil producing and iron and steel industries, which also disposed of active participation of the soldiers in the installation. The strategical project, from which later on the foundation of Embraer was derived, prioritized the formation of human resources of high level, capable of not only absorbing the technological knowledge that appeared in the form accelerated in the international scenery, but also of looking for solutions appropriate to the national context. This was at a time where Brazil was characterized for a predominantly agricultural economy and, therefore, highly dependant of the industrialized arrived products from abroad.
