Abstract

A conclusion to the book, Contextualizing Transition: Interviews with Contemporary Russian Writers & Critics, is presented. It discusses the representation of women in Russian literature in the 1990s. Women have their voices but they have timid attitudes to gender politics and the representation of non-traditional female subjectivities. With this, Russian prose has moved from the status of alternative literature to a point of critical inquiry and political contestation. In spite of this situation, Russian prose is slowly entering the second stage of postmodern practices.
